AP High Court Gets New Additional Judge as Justice Balaji Medamalli Takes Oath

Justice Balaji Medamalli was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur at a special ceremony held on the High Court premises.

The event was attended by several sitting judges of the High Court, the Registrar General, senior judicial officers, and representatives of the Bar Association, all of whom extended their congratulations to the newly appointed judge. Soon after the ceremony, Justice Medamalli assumed charge and began discharging his duties from the First Court Hall.

A Distinguished Legal Journey

Hailing from Rajampet in YSR Kadapa district , Justice Medamalli began his academic journey in his hometown before pursuing legal studies in Hyderabad . He started his career under the mentorship of noted advocate Gudapati Venkateswara Rao , gaining foundational experience in the legal profession.

Over the years, he built a strong reputation in civil, constitutional, municipal, and administrative law, earning recognition for his in-depth legal expertise and courtroom acumen.

Key Roles in Government Representation

Justice Medamalli also held significant responsibilities representing the government. Between 2004 and 2006 , he served as Assistant Government Pleader, handling several complex cases on behalf of the state. Later, in 2018 , he was appointed Standing Counsel for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation , where he played a crucial role in addressing disputes related to municipal governance and local bodies.

Strengthening the High Court Bench

His appointment received the approval of President Droupadi Murmu , following which the Union Ministry of Law issued an official notification earlier this week. He formally took the oath on Thursday.

With his induction, the strength of judges in the Andhra Pradesh High Court has increased. Out of the sanctioned 37 judicial posts, 32 were previously filled. The number has now risen to 33 with Justice Medamalli’s appointment.
