The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a large-scale health screening programme aimed at early detection and prevention of diseases, fulfilling a key promise of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu .

Cleared by Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav , the initiative targets individuals identified as high-risk in the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) survey. Around 5.64 million people, including students in welfare hostels, will be covered under the programme.

Each beneficiary will undergo up to 47 diagnostic tests, including 20 common screenings and additional disease-specific tests based on individual health conditions, ensuring a comprehensive assessment.

The government has earmarked approximately ₹162 crore annually for the initiative, which is planned over a 5-year period. All services will be provided free of cost, bringing advanced diagnostics directly to people’s doorsteps.

As part of the rollout, 104 mobile medical units are being upgraded into fully equipped laboratories with modern devices such as biochemistry analysers, CBC machines, and microscopes, enabling a wide range of advanced tests.

In total, the network will expand to 904 vehicles, with each unit expected to screen around 30–35 individuals per day to ensure timely coverage of the target population.

Test results will be digitized to create Electronic Health Records for every individual, allowing seamless access to medical history and enabling personalised care under the ‘Sanjeevani’ initiative.

The upgraded mobile units are expected to begin operations within the next 2 months, marking a significant step toward strengthening preventive healthcare in the state.
