AP Govt Under Fire Over ₹30,000 Crore Employee Arrears
The Congress party staged a major protest near the Guntur Collectorate on Saturday, demanding the immediate release of pending salary arrears for government employees and the implementation of the 12th PRC .
Participating in the agitation, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan alleged that nearly 6 lakh government employees in Andhra Pradesh were yet to receive salary arrears worth around ₹30,000 crore . He said the delay had pushed many employee families into severe financial hardship and accused the state government of ignoring their long-pending demands.
Chinta Mohan also targeted the government over the Amaravati land issue, alleging that lands belonging to poor Dalit families in the capital region were being taken away and handed over to wealthy groups. In a sharp remark against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, he claimed Amaravati had turned into “ Chandravati .”
The Congress leader further alleged that both the previous government led by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the current administration had failed to provide corruption-free governance in the state.
Criticising the Centre over rising fuel prices , Chinta Mohan said earlier Prime Ministers P. V. Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh had protected common people from the burden of steep fuel hikes despite economic challenges. However, he accused the government led by Narendra Modi of continuously increasing petrol and diesel prices, worsening the financial burden on the common public .
Congress leaders warned that the party would intensify its agitation until the issues of government employees and ordinary citizens were addressed.
