AP Government to Set Up 13 New Dialysis Centres Across State

In a major push to strengthen renal healthcare, the AP government has approved the establishment of 13 new dialysis centres across the state, aiming to improve access for patients in rural and tribal areas . The move is intended to reduce the physical and financial burden on kidney patients who are forced to travel long distances to cities for regular dialysis.

Announcing the decision, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav clarified that the newly sanctioned centres are additional facilities and not part of the existing dialysis network. Of the 13 centres, five have been approved under the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) , while the remaining units are being developed directly by the state to bridge regional healthcare gaps.

At present, Andhra Pradesh has about 247 dialysis centres operating statewide. Most of these function under the Dr NTR Vaidya Seva Trust through a PPP model, while around 61 centres are directly government-managed under the Directorate of Secondary Health. The newly announced 13 centres will further expand capacity, especially in underserved areas.

The new dialysis units will be set up at Community Health Centres and secondary hospitals in locations such as Railway Koduru, Kondepi, Kovvur, Mydukur and Nandigama, with tender processes underway in several other towns. Newly constructed centres at S. Kota and Seethampeta are ready for inauguration, bringing much-needed relief to patients in tribal belts.

According to officials, all centres are being developed on a fast-track basis and are expected to become fully functional by April . Each centre will be equipped with five modern dialysis machines , enabling multiple sessions every day and significantly improving local treatment availability.

The government is spending ₹11.05 crore on the project, with each centre costing about ₹85 lakh. A key highlight is that dialysis services at government facilities will continue to be provided free of cost , offering substantial relief to poor patients who otherwise spend thousands of rupees per session at private hospitals.

During the 2024–25 financial year , the state spent ₹164 crore on kidney-related healthcare and delivered nearly 4.12 lakh free dialysis sessions , underlining the AP government’s sustained commitment to accessible and affordable renal care.
