AP Deputy CM expresses concern over lack of Plastic ban enforcement

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan stated in the Assembly that the ban on single-use plastic, while in effect, is not being properly implemented at the ground level. He was responding to a question raised by Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi.

Pawan Kalyan highlighted the severe environmental damage caused by single-use plastic, pointing out that even the Assembly itself is not free from its use. He suggested that while a complete ban on plexiglass would be ideal, the government is considering the economic impact on jobs. Instead, he proposed the use of biodegradable plexiglass and a large-scale public awareness campaign across the state. He also called for a comprehensive discussion on the issue within the Assembly.

The Deputy CM also addressed the issue of the Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary, promising action. He criticized the previous government for not appointing officials to the Pollution Control Board (PCB), noting that pollution control is a collective responsibility involving both industries and the public. He mentioned that the government has issued a show-cause notice to the Ranki organization regarding pollution issues but is being cautious to avoid causing job losses.

Pawan Kalyan emphasized that the current government's approach is to engage in dialogue with industrialists rather than resorting to the punitive and politically motivated actions of the previous administration. He stated, "Our intention is not to scare the industrialists. We will sit down and discuss the problem." This approach aims to find a balanced solution that addresses environmental concerns without jeopardizing employment.
