Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has called for urgent improvements in maternal healthcare services following the death of a woman during childbirth in Pithapuram.

Mrs. Dondapati Sridev, a resident of Chebrolu in Pithapuram constituency, experienced serious complications after delivering her child at the Pithapuram Government Hospital. She was later shifted to Kakinada Hospital but succumbed to her condition, prompting a review of hospital procedures and staff performance.

During a video conference with the Kakinada District Collector and the Project Director of the Pithapuram Area Development Authority (PADA), the Deputy Chief Minister stressed that no stage of maternal care should be handled carelessly. He instructed authorities to ensure that prenatal, delivery, and postnatal services are properly provided in all government hospitals.

Pawan Kalyan also urged regular training and awareness programs for doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, emphasizing that government medical facilities must prioritize patient care over personal beliefs or practices. He directed a detailed investigation into the hospital’s handling of the case, including staff conduct and adherence to medical protocols.

The Deputy Chief Minister also reviewed maternal death audits in Kakinada district, highlighting the importance of immediate expert-led investigations whenever maternal deaths occur. He requested a comprehensive report on Mrs. Sridev’s death and the health status of the newborn.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Pawan Kalyan reiterated that government hospitals should serve as models for safe and effective maternal healthcare.
