AP CM launched first AI-Integrated Command Control Center at Tirumala
AP CM Chandrababu inaugurated the country’s first AI Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) at Tirumala, aimed at enhancing the experience of thousands of devotees visiting the temple daily. The center, established with support from non-resident Indians (NRIs), yesterday at Vaikuntam Queue Complex-1, Compartment No. 25.
The TTD, under the guidance of its chairman who has been actively promoting the use of advanced technologies, intends to leverage artificial intelligence to address the challenges faced by devotees during darshan. The ICCC is designed to streamline crowd management, improve accommodation facilities, and strengthen security measures across the temple premises.
ICCC will monitor CCTV footage from all departments on a large digital display, with over 25 technical staff overseeing real-time developments. Advanced AI systems will estimate crowd flow from Alipiri and other entry points using both existing and newly installed cameras. This technology will also track critical parameters such as the number of devotees in queues, waiting times, and the status of Sarva Darshan.
The most recent major stampede in Tirupati occurred on January 8, 2025. It happened during the distribution of "darshan" tokens for the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam, an event that attracts a large number of devotees. The stampede resulted in six deaths and dozens of injuries. In order to avoid such incidents and provide safety for the pilgrims TTD is implementing this ICCC.
Enhanced Security and Safety Measures
The AI-driven system incorporates facial recognition technology to identify devotees, detect thefts, and locate missing persons. By analyzing facial expressions, the system can gauge the difficulties faced by devotees and alert authorities to potential issues. The ICCC will also provide real-time updates on accommodation, queues, and other facilities through 3D maps, marking crowded areas in red to prioritize intervention.
Additionally, the center will serve as a safeguard against cyber threats and misinformation. Continuous monitoring of online platforms will help prevent inappropriate posts and protect the reputation of TTD, ensuring that devotees’ experiences remain positive and accurate information is shared with the public.
Emergency Preparedness and Devotee Experience
The ICCC will guide authorities and devotees during emergencies, displaying the nearest evacuation routes and offering actionable instructions. Beyond operational management, the system aims to enhance the overall darshan experience by assessing devotees’ comfort levels, helping TTD make data-driven decisions for better crowd control, accommodation management, and service delivery.
With this initiative, Tirumala will set a benchmark in the use of artificial intelligence for religious and public service management, combining cutting-edge technology with traditional devotion to create a safer and more efficient pilgrimage experience for millions of visitors.
