AP approves Rs 4,000-cr solar plant in Rambilli

The Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved a Rs 4,000-crore solar ingot and wafer manufacturing plant by ReNew Photovoltaics in Rambilli, Anakapalli district.

The project, developed by ReNew Energy Global PLC's subsidiary, will have a capacity of 6 GW and will produce the key building blocks used in solar cells and modules. These components are essential for generating solar energy.

According to an official press release, ReNew Photovoltaics is investing around Rs 3,990 crore in this greenfield facility. The Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board has formally approved the proposal. The new plant will help India reduce its reliance on imported solar components, particularly from China, supporting the country’s goal of achieving 300 GW of solar capacity by 2030.

The project is also supported under the Government of India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar manufacturing. The facility will be built on a 140-acre plot, which will soon be handed over for construction.

The plant is expected to be completed by March 2026, with commercial production starting from January 2028. Once operational, it will create around 1,200 jobs for both high-skilled and semi-skilled workers. The facility will require a continuous power supply of 95 MW and 10 million liters of water per day to operate efficiently.

This investment is a significant step in strengthening India’s solar manufacturing capabilities and promoting renewable energy growth while generating employment in the region.
