AP Aims to Become Drug-Free State by March 2027: Home Minister Anitha

Andhra Pradesh is working towards becoming a model state in the fight against drug abuse, with the government aiming to make the state drug-free by March 2027, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said.

Speaking in Anakapalli district, Anitha said the government was taking strict action against the trafficking and use of narcotic substances while simultaneously focusing on awareness programmes to keep young people away from drugs.

She said the state was strengthening the Eagle system to make the anti-drug drive more effective. Along with enforcement measures, coordinated awareness initiatives are being carried out to educate young people about the risks associated with substance abuse.

“The goal is to safeguard the future of every family and every young person,” the minister said, reiterating the government’s commitment to achieving a drug-free Andhra Pradesh by March 2027.

Anitha also stressed the importance of recognising police personnel who demonstrate excellence both in their professional duties and in other fields.

At her residence in Nakkapalli, she felicitated V. Vijaya, a woman constable from Anakapalli district, for her achievements in sports. Vijaya won six gold medals at state-level police sports competitions, an achievement the minister described as commendable.

The minister also honoured constable Rambabu for effectively using technology in his duties and delivering exemplary service. She appreciated his efforts to make technology an integral part of policing and public service.

Narsipatnam DSP Srinivasa Rao was also felicitated for his decision to donate his organs, with Anitha appreciating the humanitarian values reflected in the gesture.

The Home Minister said recognising the dedication, talent and service of police personnel was an important responsibility. She noted that acknowledging their contributions would motivate the force to perform its duties with greater commitment and deliver better services to the public.
