Anvay Dravid Shines With 87 as India U19 Post 285 Against Sri Lanka U19
Promising youngster Anvay Dravid , son of former India captain and cricket icon Rahul Dravid, played a brilliant knock of 87 runs off 67 balls to guide India U19 to a competitive total of 285 against Sri Lanka U19 in the second Youth ODI of the three-match series on Monday.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, India found themselves in early trouble at 81 for 4 in the 19th over . However, Anvay steadied the innings with a crucial partnership alongside Arjun Rajput , who contributed a well-made 76 off 81 deliveries .
The pair stitched together a 145-run stand for the fifth wicket , rescuing India from a difficult position and putting the visitors firmly back in control. Rajput's innings came to an unfortunate end when he was run out following a direct hit from Dimantha Mahavithana , leaving India at 221.
Anvay continued to dominate the Sri Lankan bowlers with an attacking approach. The wicketkeeper-batter struck nine fours and one six , reaching his maiden Youth ODI half-century in just 47 balls . One of the highlights of his innings was taking on pacer Chamika Heenatigala , smashing him for a six and a four in consecutive deliveries.
With a maiden Youth ODI century within reach, Anvay looked set for a memorable milestone before falling to left-arm pacer Gimhan Mendis . His dismissal for 87 halted India's momentum and reduced the visitors to 263 for 7 .
Mendis emerged as Sri Lanka's standout performer with the ball, claiming an impressive 5 wickets for 41 runs . India then lost their remaining wickets quickly, adding only 22 more runs before being bowled out for 285 in 47.2 overs .
India entered the match with momentum after securing a four-wicket victory in the opening Youth ODI, where they successfully chased down 321 runs with four balls remaining. The visitors currently lead the three-match series 1-0 and will be aiming to seal the series with another strong performance.
