Anupama Parameswaran files complaint against 20-Year-Old for circulating morphed images

Actress Anupama Parameswaran has taken firm legal action against a 20-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu for allegedly circulating morphed images of her and spreading false allegations on social media.

The “Premam” actress announced her decision through her Instagram account, stating that she was deeply disturbed by the “extremely inappropriate and false content” shared through a particular Instagram profile. The posts reportedly targeted not only her but also her family, friends, and co-stars, tagging them in defamatory posts.

Anupama, who has starred in several successful films across Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil industries including “Premam,” “Rowdy Boys,” and “18 Pages,” expressed disappointment over the increasing misuse of social media platforms to spread misinformation and tarnish reputations.

In such cases, cybercrime police can act swiftly under sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to defamation, identity theft, and harassment. Authorities have previously traced offenders by tracking their IP addresses and online footprints. For instance, in similar incidents involving celebrities, police cyber cells have successfully apprehended individuals responsible for editing and sharing morphed photos within days.

Anupama’s legal move highlights the growing concern among public figures about online harassment and digital defamation, urging stronger cyber vigilance and accountability.

Police officials have reiterated that spreading morphed images or defamatory content online is a punishable offence, and strict action will be taken against those involved once the investigation concludes.
