Anti-Drug Wing EAGLE Showing Impact: Anitha
The Andhra Pradesh government’s sustained crackdown on drugs is yielding encouraging results, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said, asserting that the administration is firmly focused on protecting youth from the dangers of narcotics.
She said that over the last 19 months, the police department and the specialised EAGLE wing have been working relentlessly to curb illicit marijuana cultivation and dismantle drug trafficking networks across the state. The government’s approach, she noted, is aimed at eliminating the menace comprehensively rather than addressing it in isolation.
EAGLE Annual Report Handed Over to Chief Minister
The annual performance report of the EAGLE wing was presented by its Inspector General Ravikrishna to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu . The report highlighted key achievements and special initiatives implemented during the past year.
Anitha said the Chief Minister appreciated the department’s efforts, adding that strong policy backing and administrative support have enabled officials at the ground level to act with greater resolve and efficiency.
Technology Aided Operations Under ‘Operation Chaitanya’
As part of “Operation Chaitanya,” the government has deployed advanced technology to check illicit marijuana cultivation, particularly in remote and inaccessible regions. Satellite imagery and drone surveillance have led to the detection and destruction of illegal crops spread across thousands of acres.
Beyond enforcement, the government is also focusing on long-term solutions by guiding tribal farmers toward alternative and sustainable livelihood options, helping bring about a positive shift away from illegal activities.
‘Operation Safe Campus Zone’ to Protect Students
To prevent drugs from reaching educational institutions, authorities have intensified monitoring through “Operation Safe Campus Zone.” More than 47,000 cases have been registered so far under this initiative.
In parallel, over 40,000 EAGLE Clubs have been set up across the state to create awareness among students, while more than 35,000 awareness programmes have been conducted. De-addiction centres are providing counselling and rehabilitation support to those affected by substance abuse.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, the Home Minister said achieving a “Drug-Free Andhra Pradesh” remains the ultimate objective. She made it clear that stricter measures will be taken in the coming days and that there will be no compromise when it comes to safeguarding the future of the state’s youth.
