Anti-Maoist Operation: Ranchi Police Arrest Two TSPC Members
Two members of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) , a splinter group of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) , were arrested in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, police said on Friday.
The accused were apprehended near Irba Golchakkar under the Ormanjhi Police Station limits on Thursday following specific intelligence inputs . Arms and ammunition, including a country-made pistol , a magazine, two mobile phones and SIM cards, were recovered from their possession, officials said.
According to police, the duo had been on the radar after a businessman lodged a complaint on April 17 , alleging that he was threatened and extorted for ₹10 lakh . During interrogation, the arrested individuals admitted to their involvement in extortion activities targeting businessmen across Hazaribag, Ramgarh and Chatra districts.
Ranchi Rural Superintendent of Police Gaurav Goswami said both accused are active members of the banned outfit and were engaged in raising funds through coercion . One of them is reportedly involved in four criminal cases across two districts.
An FIR has been registered at Ormanjhi Police Station, and the accused have been remanded to judicial custody , the officer added.
The arrests come amid intensified anti-Maoist operations in Jharkhand, where security forces have significantly weakened insurgent networks in recent years. According to recent assessments, the number of active Maoist cadres in the state is currently estimated at around 50 to 60 .
Officials attribute this decline to sustained security operations , surrenders , and development-led interventions aimed at curbing Left-Wing Extremism in the region.
