Another Hindu Man Killed in Bangladesh, Third Death in Two Weeks

A series of violent incidents involving Hindu victims in Bangladesh over the past two weeks has heightened fear among minority communities and drawn international attention to the country’s law-and-order situation . The back-to-back killings have raised serious concerns over minority safety , workplace security , and the spread of rumours leading to violence .

In the latest incident, Bajendra Biswas (40) , a Hindu man and an Ansar member deployed as security staff at a garment factory, was shot dead by a fellow colleague inside a factory in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh district . The incident occurred on December 29 at Sultana Sweaters Limited . Police arrested the accused, identified as Noman Mia, and said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the killing.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, both the victim and the accused were on duty inside the factory when the shooting took place. Bajendra sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh and was rushed to a nearby health centre , where doctors declared him dead . Authorities said the incident raises serious questions about firearm discipline , security protocols , and the deployment of armed personnel at industrial units.

The killing comes close on the heels of another shocking incident in the same Mymensingh region , where garment worker Dipu Chandra Das was lynched by a mob following religious allegations . Subsequent reports indicated that the claims were disputed and not supported by evidence, highlighting how rumours and workplace tensions can quickly escalate into deadly mob violence.

In a separate case, Amrit Mondal , another Hindu man , was killed in Rajbari district’s Pangsha area . However, the Bangladesh government later issued a clarification stating that the incident was not communal in nature and was linked to an alleged extortion-related dispute . Officials cautioned against the spread of misinformation that could inflame communal tensions .

Despite differing official explanations in individual cases, the close succession of violent deaths involving Hindu victims has created an atmosphere of anxiety and insecurity among minorities in Bangladesh. Community organisations , rights groups , and observers have called for swift, transparent investigations and strong preventive measures to ensure the safety of vulnerable communities and prevent further violence.
