Annamayya’s Woman Rescued From Oman, Returns Home Safely
The ordeal of Dudekula Shahnaz , a woman from Vayalpadu village in Annamayya district , who was trapped in Oman, has finally ended. She safely returned to India following swift intervention by the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Ministry of External Affairs .
Shahnaz had travelled to Muscat in November last year for employment. However, when she expressed her unwillingness to continue the job and sought to return home, agents allegedly confined her, demanded Rs. 2 lakh for her release, and seized her mobile phone.
During the crisis, the victim’s husband Abubakar approached the APNRT Society , which responded immediately and coordinated with the State Government. The organisation also wrote to the Indian Embassy in Oman , while discussions with the agents were held with the support of local police authorities. The negotiations proved successful, and the agents eventually agreed to release her without any additional payment.
As a result, Shahnaz arrived in Hyderabad on May 7 and was later safely escorted to her residence in Vayalpadu by officials.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the government remains committed to the safety and welfare of people from the State living abroad. He appreciated the efforts of the APNRT Society in resolving the issue.
Officials said that members of the Jana Sena Gulf cadre , alliance representatives, and local association members also played a crucial role in the rescue efforts and provided support to the victim.
The victim’s family members recalled that the Centre had earlier rescued Indians during the Ukraine war and the Iran-Israel conflict , and said the same commitment had now been demonstrated in Shahnaz’s case as well. They expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Central Government for ensuring her safe return.
Officials reiterated that the government would continue to remain at the forefront in protecting Indians facing difficulties abroad.
