Andhra receives ₹831 Crore for MGNREGS and Panchayati Raj development

The Government of India has released ₹665 crore as the first installment for the financial year 2025–26 under the Material Component of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The Government of Andhra Pradesh has contributed a matching share of ₹166 crore, bringing the total funding to ₹831 crore. This allocation will be used to clear all pending bills under MGNREGS up to March 31, 2025, ensuring continued support for rural employment initiatives in the state.

In a separate initiative, the Central Government has sanctioned ₹50 crore under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) to strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions in Andhra Pradesh. The state government will provide an additional ₹33 crore as its share. The funds are intended for constructing Panchayat buildings, computerizing records, providing training to staff and elected representatives, and encouraging innovative practices in rural governance.

Expressing his gratitude, AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Centre’s sustained support in enhancing rural development through MGNREGS and Panchayati Raj reforms in Andhra Pradesh. He also acknowledged Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Lalan Singh, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for their cooperation in ensuring the timely provision of matching state funds.

The combined support from the Central and State governments is expected to strengthen rural employment programs, improve Panchayati Raj infrastructure, and enhance the efficiency of governance at the grassroots level across Andhra Pradesh.
