Andhra Pradesh Unveils ₹5,400 Crore Solar Manufacturing Hub in Anakapalli
Andhra Pradesh has taken a decisive leap toward becoming a renewable energy hub , with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launching a ₹5,400 crore solar manufacturing facility at Rambilli in Anakapalli district. The project, developed by ReNew Power, marks a strategic shift from mere power generation to high-value manufacturing within the clean energy sector. With a planned capacity of nearly 6 GW, the unit will produce critical components like ingot-wafer structures, which form the backbone of solar panels and have so far been largely imported.
Highlighting the significance of the project, the Chief Minister stressed that reducing reliance on imports will strengthen energy security while saving valuable foreign exchange. The facility is expected to be completed within 24 months and generate around 2,100 jobs, boosting local employment and industrial growth. This move also aligns with India’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat , as domestic production of key solar components will help build a more resilient supply chain.
The Rambilli project is part of a larger investment roadmap, with ReNew Power committing nearly ₹82,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh. Additional wind-solar projects worth ₹10,370 crore are planned in Anantapur and Kurnool, reinforcing the state’s position as a fast-growing clean energy destination. Andhra Pradesh is targeting a contribution of 160 GW toward India’s ambitious goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, a transition expected to attract investments of nearly ₹10 lakh crore and create up to 7.5 lakh jobs.
Beyond large-scale infrastructure, the government is also focusing on decentralised energy solutions. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, plans are underway to install rooftop panels on 40 lakh households, effectively turning homes into power generators . This initiative aims to reduce transmission losses while lowering electricity costs for consumers. Simultaneously, the state is accelerating its push toward electric mobility , with plans to introduce electric buses and establish 5,000 EV charging stations across Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister also reiterated progress on key infrastructure projects, stating that Godavari water will be supplied to Anakapalli by the 2026 monsoon, while the Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to be inaugurated soon by Narendra Modi. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Polavaram Project before the next Pushkarams, while ensuring that reforms in the power sector do not impose any additional burden on consumers.
