Andhra Pradesh Turns Into a Furnace as Temperatures Cross 45°C

Andhra Pradesh is in the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring unusually high at the very start of summer. Rising mercury levels over the past few days have pushed several regions into extreme weather conditions, prompting authorities to issue fresh warnings.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has said severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue on Saturday, with strong hot winds expected across many parts of the state. Officials indicated that north coastal and coastal districts are likely to witness the highest intensity of heat.

On Thursday, temperatures across the state remained 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal. Sanjamala in Nandyal district recorded the highest temperature at 45.1°C , followed by 44.9°C in Ontimitta of Kadapa district. More than 215 mandals reported temperatures above 40°C, while several areas in Sri Sathya Sai, Anantapur, and Markapuram touched 44°C .

According to officials, nearly 30 mandals in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts are likely to face severe heatwave conditions, while another 55 mandals may experience moderate hot winds. Temperatures in Parvathipuram Manyam, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore districts are expected to range between 43°C and 44.5°C .

Authorities have advised people to avoid stepping out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. unless absolutely necessary. The elderly, pregnant women, and children have been urged to take extra precautions to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.
