Andhra Pradesh to take lead in quantum technology: CM Chandrababu Naidu

Andhra Pradesh is set to play a pioneering role in the quantum technology revolution, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said. He announced that the state government has a comprehensive plan to train international-level experts in quantum and related fields.

Speaking virtually at the “Quantum Talk by CBN” program, organized jointly with Viser and Qubit companies as part of the state’s quantum initiative, Chandrababu said the goal is to transform Amaravati into a world-class “Quantum Valley.”

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of human resource development in the quantum sector. Over the coming years, the government plans to train one million experts in quantum mechanics and algorithms, three hundred thousand in quantum hardware and software, and an additional one hundred thousand in advanced research. He also expressed confidence that, within the next two years, quantum computing devices will be manufactured in Amaravati for global distribution.

CM urged students to embrace this vision and grow into future leaders in the field. Drawing a parallel with the IT revolution, he noted that Hyderabad became a global IT hub because India capitalized on the opportunity, and today Indian talent leads giants like Google and Microsoft. He encouraged leveraging the same “first-mover advantage” in quantum technology.

The Chief Minister outlined plans to develop Visakhapatnam as a data center hub, Tirupati as a space city, and the Anantapur-Kadapa region as electronics and aerospace centers. He highlighted that quantum technology could drive groundbreaking research in medicine, agriculture, and climate science, with a 100 crore reward for researchers achieving Nobel-level breakthroughs.

Chandrababu also linked the state’s quantum ambitions to national economic goals, stating that Andhra Pradesh will play a key role in achieving Prime Minister Modi’s “Viksit Bharat” vision of a $30 trillion Indian economy. He expressed the ambition that Amaravati could become India’s equivalent of Silicon Valley, specifically for quantum technology.

The event saw participation from directors of IIT Madras and IIT Tirupati, IBM representatives, university professors, and thousands of students. CM celebrated the overwhelming response to the quantum training initiative, with 54,000 students registering, and commended the IT department for the effort.

Reflecting on past achievements, the Chief Minister recalled that 25 years ago, Andhra Pradesh laid the foundation for the IT revolution, which transformed Hyderabad into a global IT hub. He traced India’s historical strengths in urban planning, Ayurveda, mathematics, and astronomy, noting that Indian knowledge systems have been globally influential for centuries.

Chandrababu highlighted India’s evolution into the world’s fourth-largest economy through technology-driven services, green initiatives, and industrial growth. Programs like Make in India, Skill India, Digital India, and GST have further strengthened the economy. He proudly noted that one in every four IT experts worldwide is Indian, including many from Andhra Pradesh, and emphasized that the younger generation now has an even brighter future.

He concluded by stating that, under Prime Minister Modi’s “Viksit Bharat” vision, India is set to emerge as a leading global economic power.
