Andhra Pradesh to build 2,500-acre Sports City in Amaravati: Minister Narayana
The Andhra Pradesh government is moving swiftly to develop Amaravati into a world-class capital with modern infrastructure. As part of this plan, a 2,500-acre Sports City capable of hosting Olympic-level events will be constructed. Minister of Municipal Administration P. Narayana confirmed that construction is expected to begin within a year.
In parallel, during the second phase of land pooling in Amaravati, Minister Narayana, along with Pedakurapadu MLA Bhaskyam Praveen, met with farmers in Yandri village. After offering special prayers at a local temple, they collected feedback from villagers. Residents of four villages warmly welcomed the minister. Farmer Namburi Balaram handed over land documents for his 4-acre property to the RDO.
Minister Narayana emphasized that developing smart industries, an airport, and an international-level Sports City is crucial to increasing land value in the capital. He added that these projects would create employment opportunities and boost the region’s economic growth. Out of the 7,000 acres contributed by farmers in the second phase of land pooling, 2,500 acres will be allocated for the Sports City.
The government has also prepared plans to provide essential infrastructure such as roads and drainage in the plots allocated to farmers. Measures are underway to accelerate the construction of trunk roads, main highways, and four- to six-lane roads. Officials informed the minister that public consultations through Gram Sabhas have already been completed.
Addressing delays in the capital’s development, Minister Narayana cited unpaid bills by the previous YSRCP government to contractors and heavy monsoon rains as reasons for the slowdown. He also noted that the central government is considering proposals to exempt farmers contributing land from capital gains tax.
The minister praised the trust and cooperation of farmers, saying it strengthens the government’s efforts. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to transforming Amaravati into a prestigious, world-class capital.
