Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious target of providing permanent houses to every eligible poor family in the state by 2029, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Sunday as the state launched a major rural housing programme under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0.

Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan jointly laid the foundation for 3 lakh houses at Burripalem in the Tenali Assembly constituency. The Centre has sanctioned the first instalment for the houses, estimated to involve an investment of ₹3,600 crore.

The programme also marked the launch of a pilot project using 3D concrete printing technology for affordable rural housing. The project will construct 177 houses in Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem at a cost of around ₹14 crore. The technology is expected to reduce construction time, labour requirements and costs while improving durability. The pilot is expected to be completed within six months.

Speaking at the gathering, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh had initially been eligible for around 75,000 houses under the regular allocation. Following the state government's request, the Centre increased the sanction to 3 lakh houses. He said Chouhan had assured the state that another 3 lakh houses would be sanctioned after completion of the current phase, followed by another 3 lakh, taking the potential central support to 9 lakh houses.

Naidu said the coalition government was focusing on both welfare and development and had distributed house sites worth around ₹52,000 crore to poor families in areas including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Mangalagiri. He also accused the previous government of mishandling housing schemes between 2019 and 2024, alleging that around six lakh houses were cancelled and several beneficiaries were allotted plots in unsuitable locations.

The Chief Minister said the government was now concentrating on quality housing and modern construction methods. If the 3D-printing pilot proves successful, he said the technology could be expanded to thousands of additional houses and position Andhra Pradesh as a model for technology-driven affordable housing.

Chouhan said the Centre would continue supporting Andhra Pradesh's housing needs and described the collaboration between the Union and state governments as important for rural development. He said the Narendra Modi government was committed to helping the state provide permanent homes to poor families.
