Andhra Pradesh should emerge as a paradise for tourists: Pawan Kalyan

Andhra Pradesh is preparing to reshape its tourism sector with a strong emphasis on safety , eco-tourism , and rural participation , according to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

In a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat with officials from the forest , tourism , panchayat raj, and rural development departments, he outlined a plan to develop the state as a major tourism destination. Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh also attended the meeting.

A key decision under consideration is the introduction of a “Tourist Police” system aimed at improving visitor safety and strengthening confidence among tourists . The proposal is expected to be placed before the state cabinet soon. Officials said the initiative could also generate significant employment opportunities , with an estimated 50,000 jobs linked to its implementation.

To accelerate development, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the formation of a joint committee involving four departments to identify around 200 tourism locations across the state. The panel has been asked to assess infrastructure and submit a report within five days to guide future development plans.

The government is also focusing on promoting homestay-based rural tourism , inspired by models in northeastern states. The initiative is expected to boost rural incomes while offering visitors a more local and immersive experience.

Eco-tourism projects were also reviewed, including key sites such as the Krishna deer habitat in Kurnool district, the Byraluti area in the Nallamala forest region, and the Flamingo zone in Nellore district, which will be developed based on their ecological importance.

The overall plan reflects a shift toward safer, community-linked, and environmentally sustainable tourism growth in Andhra Pradesh.
