The Andhra Pradesh government has approved Rs 544.3 crore to acquire 2,171 acres of land for the development of the Dugarajapatnam Greenfield Port and Shipbuilding Cluster , officials said. The project spans Vakadu mandal in Tirupati district and Kota mandal in Nellore district , and is aimed at enhancing the state’s maritime infrastructure and industrial capacity.

According to the government order issued by MT Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary, Infrastructure & Investment (Ports) Department , out of the total land, 1,932 acres are patta land (private/habitation) and 239 acres are government land . In Tirupati district, land identified includes Pathetipalem (251 acres), Vagarru (530 acres), Valamedu (724 acres), and Pamanji (489 acres) , totaling 1,995 acres. In Nellore district, Kothapatnam (46 acres) and Puchalapalli (129 acres) will be acquired.

The Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) , responsible for the project, confirmed that the technical feasibility report prepared by RITES validated the land requirement for both the port and the shipbuilding cluster. The project is currently in the administrative sanction stage , with the APMB set to mobilize funds and initiate formal land acquisition.

Once operational, the port is expected to significantly boost maritime trade, shipbuilding capacity, and local employment , potentially creating thousands of jobs during construction and operation. The Dugarajapatnam port is strategically located along the east coast of India , offering access to major shipping routes in the Bay of Bengal .

The sanctioned amount marks a key step towards realizing Andhra Pradesh’s ambition of establishing a world-class greenfield port and industrial hub, making it a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure development plans.
