Andhra Pradesh Launches Subsidised Rice Sales at 630 Special Counters Across the State

In a move aimed at easing the burden of rising food prices, the Andhra Pradesh Government has launched a special subsidised rice sale programme across the state. The initiative, which began on Sunday, offers quality rice to consumers at prices significantly lower than those prevailing in the open market.

The programme is being implemented through 630 special sales centres, comprising 130 Rythu Bazaars and 500 dedicated counters at rice mills. Under the scheme, BPT Super Fine Rice is being sold at ₹52 per kg, while BPT Raw Rice is available at ₹50 per kg. To ensure wider access, each individual can purchase up to 10 kilograms of rice by producing an Aadhaar card.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar at the APIIC Rythu Bazaar in Vijayawada, where he personally distributed rice to consumers to mark the launch.

Addressing the gathering, the minister said the government introduced the initiative to provide relief to households facing increasing rice prices in the retail market. He noted that BPT Super Fine Rice, which is currently sold for ₹62–₹65 per kg in the open market, is now being offered at ₹52, while BPT Raw Rice, usually priced between ₹58 and ₹60 per kg, is available at ₹50 under the scheme.

Nadendla Manohar said the programme is being implemented with the support of the State Rice Millers Association, which partnered with the government to make quality rice available at affordable prices.

He reiterated that the government is committed to ensuring essential commodities remain within the reach of common people. The minister also revealed that discussions are underway with the Central Government to introduce similar price support measures for commodities such as tur dal (red gram) and palm oil in the future.

Emphasising the government's proactive approach, he said the objective is to address public concerns before they escalate and urged people across the state to make full use of the newly established subsidised rice sale centres.
