“Andhra Pradesh Launches Statewide Free Animal Health Camps for Farmers’ Livestock”

Andhra Pradesh, known for its vast livestock resources, is set to host free animal health camps statewide from January 19 to 31 , aimed at protecting the health of the state’s animals. This was announced by Kinjirapu Achennaidu, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry , during a press event at his camp office in Vijayawada on Monday, where he also unveiled related guidelines for the camps.

Speaking at the event, the minister expressed pride in the state’s famous livestock breeds, including the Ongole and Punganur cattle , as well as the renowned Nellore and Macherla sheep . He emphasized that despite adverse weather conditions, the animal husbandry sector remains a stable source of income for farmers , with nearly 2.5 million families in Andhra Pradesh relying on this sector for their livelihood .

Highlighting the state’s livestock statistics, Minister Achennaidu stated that Andhra Pradesh currently has 10.819 million cows and buffaloes , 23.149 million sheep and goats , and 107.863 million chickens , making it second in the country in poultry numbers. He recalled that after the formation of the coalition government in 2025, animal health camps were held in 13,257 villages , providing medical services to over 1.048 million animals . Following this model, similar camps will be conducted in all villages this year, which is expected to increase productivity and control animal diseases .

The minister detailed the services to be offered through these camps, including veterinary treatment, treatment for reproductive disorders, distribution of deworming medicines, preventive vaccines, and diagnostic tests for animal diseases—all free of cost . He noted that sheep and goats will receive deworming medicine four times a year, while larger livestock will receive it twice annually . Minister Achennaidu instructed the animal husbandry department staff to work diligently to provide the best possible veterinary care to farmers. The program saw participation from Dr. Damodar Naidu, Director of Animal Husbandry, and several senior officials .
