Andhra Pradesh In Heat-Storm Transition Today, Telangana Moves Into Rain Phase
Weather conditions across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are set to show a clear regional divide on May 7 , with heat persisting in parts of Andhra Pradesh while Telangana shifts towards widespread thunderstorms and cooling , according to the India Meteorological Department.
In Rayalaseema (Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur) , hot and dry conditions will dominate , with maximum temperatures likely to range between 39°C and 41°C , especially during the afternoon. However, isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (up to 40–50 km/h) are expected later in the day, bringing brief relief but also sudden weather changes.
Across south coastal Andhra (Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur region) , the pattern will be similar, with humid heat during the day followed by scattered evening thunderstorms . These regions are also expected to face increasing discomfort due to rising humidity and cloud cover , even where rainfall remains patchy. Recent IMD outlooks indicate more heatwave days in coastal districts this month , alongside intermittent rain activity.
In north coastal Andhra (Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam) , weather instability is already higher, and light to moderate rainfall is more likely during the day itself, along with gusty winds and lightning. This region has already seen crop damage due to erratic rain and winds, and similar conditions are expected to continue.
In contrast, Telangana will witness a more widespread shift to stormy weather on May 7 . In Hyderabad and surrounding central districts, light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are likely through the day, with temperatures dropping by around 2–5°C.
Across north Telangana (Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar) , morning heat may still push temperatures toward 40-42°C, but thunderstorm activity is expected to increase later in the day, gradually bringing relief.
In south Telangana (Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam) , more consistent rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast, with widespread lightning and gusty winds, as a cyclonic circulation and trough system enhance moisture inflow over the region.
