Andhra Pradesh extends CS K. Vijayanand’s tenure by Three months

The Andhra Pradesh government has officially extended the tenure of Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand by three months, taking his service beyond the scheduled superannuation to February 28, 2026. The extension has been formally approved by the central government, reflecting both procedural compliance and recognition of his critical role in the state administration.

Vijayanand, a 1992-batch IAS officer, has been associated with Andhra Pradesh (and its predecessor, undivided AP) for over three decades. His career began as an Assistant Collector in Adilabad district and progressed through various district-level administrative roles, including Sub-Collector, District Collector, and Project Director for rural development and planning. Over the years, he has held pivotal positions in state infrastructure, IT, and energy sectors, including as Managing Director of APGENCO and CMD of APTRANSCO, as well as Principal Secretary (IT & Electronics).

Since assuming office as Chief Secretary in December 2024, Vijayanand has overseen critical policy initiatives, particularly in the energy sector. He has been instrumental in shaping the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, which aims to expand renewable energy capacity to 160 GW, attract substantial investment, and generate significant employment. Under his leadership, the state has also prioritized energy security, ensuring optimal utilization of hydel and thermal power resources, improving agricultural power supply, and facilitating smart meter installations to modernize the electricity grid.

Beyond energy, Vijayanand has played a vital role in fostering industrial growth, IT, and electronics investment, balancing urban and rural development priorities. His cross-sectoral experience, from district administration to infrastructure and welfare, provides him with a holistic perspective essential for executing complex state initiatives.

The decision to extend his tenure reflects the state government’s desire for administrative continuity and stability during a critical phase of policy implementation, particularly in sectors such as energy, industrial development, and welfare schemes. Simultaneously, the government has announced G. Sai Prasad as his designated successor, ensuring a smooth transition while maintaining momentum on ongoing projects.
