Andhra Minister Ravi Kumar slams Jagan over MAVIGUN proposal

Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister G. Ravi Kumar launched a sharp attack on YSR Congress Party chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of using the proposed MAVIGAN Capital Corridor to divert attention from the failed three-capital policy.

The minister said the coalition government is pushing ahead with the rapid development of Amaravati, while the opposition is attempting to create fresh political narratives to counter the growing support for the capital city project. He alleged that the corridor proposal linking Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur was being promoted mainly for political survival after the earlier decentralisation model failed to gain public backing.

Referring to Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent media interaction, Ravi Kumar criticised his remarks comparing the projected ₹2 lakh crore cost of Amaravati with the lower expenditure estimated for the MAVIGAN corridor. The minister argued that such claims were misleading and could create confusion over Andhra Pradesh’s long-term infrastructure and investment priorities.

He further accused the YSRCP leadership of taking contradictory positions on decentralisation and governance, stating that people would not believe arguments driven by shifting political interests.

Ravi Kumar also objected to Jagan raising personal and family-related issues during the press conference, particularly comments about former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Questioning the timing of the remarks, the minister asked why no formal investigation was initiated during Jagan’s five-year tenure as Chief Minister if genuine doubts existed.

Calling for a more constructive approach, Ravi Kumar urged the opposition leader to focus on the state’s progress instead of relying on emotional narratives for public sympathy.
