Andhra Govt Strengthens Focus on Police Welfare: Anitha

The Andhra Pradesh coalition government has stepped up its focus on police welfare by launching a major health insurance initiative for Home Guards in Visakhapatnam. State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha distributed insurance policy documents to personnel and their families under the Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate, extending free coverage to 975 families.

Speaking at the programme, Anitha said Home Guards play a crucial role in maintaining law and order and deserve stronger institutional support. She noted that rising medical costs have placed a heavy burden on families, making comprehensive healthcare protection increasingly important for frontline personnel.

The minister also announced that the government is working on additional education and security measures for police families. Discussions are underway to create a special programme that would provide quality academic opportunities for children of police staff, with a detailed action plan expected soon.

Highlighting the government’s new hybrid welfare approach, Anitha said the administration is committed to ensuring wider access to healthcare benefits for employees across the police department. She added that supporting the families of those serving in public safety roles is a key responsibility of the state.

The initiative was organised under the leadership of Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi, with the Home Minister appreciating senior officials and police teams for successfully implementing the large-scale welfare programme.
