Andhra eyes Aerospace boom with Airbus Tie-Up

In a major initiative to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s aerospace and aviation sector, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu held a roundtable meeting with the Airbus Board at Airbus Headquarters in Delhi. This marked the first time the entire Airbus Board convened in India, presenting a unique opportunity to advance India’s special relationship with the global aerospace giant.

During the discussions, both ministers and Airbus officials explored opportunities to deepen collaboration and expand Airbus’ footprint in Andhra Pradesh, focusing on areas such as aircraft component manufacturing, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, and aviation training. Minister Lokesh emphasized the potential for a world-class aerospace manufacturing hub in the state, including the establishment of Tier-1 and Tier-2 supplier units to support Airbus operations.

Minister Rammohan Naidu highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s robust business ecosystem, investor-friendly policies, and strategic advantages, pointing out that the state offers an enabling environment for high-value investments in technology-intensive sectors. He stressed that collaboration with Airbus could not only boost the aerospace ecosystem but also stimulate ancillary industries, creating employment and enhancing the state’s manufacturing capabilities.

The ministers also acknowledged the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naide, which has positioned Andhra Pradesh as a promising hub for global investors and businesses. Airbus representatives expressed keen interest in exploring the proposals further, agreeing to continue detailed discussions over the coming months to finalize the framework for investment and operationalization of the proposed facilities.

With these initiatives, Andhra Pradesh aims to emerge as a leading aerospace destination in India, strengthening its position in the global aviation supply chain and attracting further international collaborations.

As of now, Andhra Pradesh does not have any large-scale, fully established aerospace manufacturing companies or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) operating within the state.There are small-scale suppliers and SMEs producing components or parts related to aviation and defense, but no major aerospace companies like Airbus, Boeing, or Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have operational manufacturing plants in Andhra Pradesh yet.The state is actively promoting its Aerospace & Defence Policy to attract such companies, and meetings with Airbus and other global firms are part of efforts to establish future facilities.

Establishing an aerospace company would provide jobs, technology transfer, industrial growth, skill development, and global investment opportunities, transforming Andhra Pradesh into a significant aerospace and aviation hub in India.
