Andhra CM Naidu calls for turning universities into research, innovation hubs
Andhra Pradesh is set to implement sweeping reforms in its education system, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu outlining a vision focused on innovation , global standards , and employment . The plan was presented during a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat involving key education and skill development departments.
The government aims to transform universities into centres of research and innovation rather than just degree-awarding institutions. As part of this shift, academic programmes will be redesigned to align with emerging sectors such as logistics, green energy, and quantum technology. Andhra University was acknowledged for introducing a course in quantum technology.
To improve global competitiveness, universities will be encouraged to collaborate with leading international institutions and industry partners, ensuring students gain practical skills and exposure. Plans are also underway to offer foreign language training, including German, to expand global career opportunities.
Employment generation remains a key priority, with the state targeting job opportunities for up to two million youth . A comprehensive skill audit will be conducted to identify gaps and align training with industry needs. Additionally, a unified digital platform will be developed to provide transparent access to job information.
The reforms also focus on schools, promoting the use of technology and innovation at an early stage. Initiatives such as a ‘Students Innovation Conclave’ on artificial intelligence, digital classrooms, and improved parent engagement through apps are part of the strategy. Curriculum changes will draw inputs from institutions like Indian Institute of Technology Madras .
Education Minister Nara Lokesh said the state is restructuring courses in line with industry requirements, with curriculum updates supported by NCERT and enhanced teacher training, including international exposure.
The reforms aim to build a future-ready education system that strengthens skills, boosts employability, and supports long-term economic growth.
