Anantapur Witnessing Two-and-a-Half Years of Misrule: Anantha Venkatarami Reddy

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Anantapur district president and constituency coordinator Anantha Venkatarami Reddy has accused the ruling coalition of allowing land encroachments, intimidation and double registrations to flourish in Anantapur city over the past two-and-a-half years. He alleged that residents’ property rights were increasingly under threat and urged voters to reject coalition candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.

Campaigning alongside YSRCP mayoral candidate Ramesh Goud across the city’s 11th, 9th, 14th, 2nd, 30th and 31st divisions on Sunday, Venkatarami Reddy criticised the BJP-TDP-Jana Sena coalition for failing to fulfil its election promises despite being in power for two-and-a-half years.

He alleged that the government had failed to deliver on several welfare commitments, including a monthly assistance of Rs. 1,500 for women aged above 18 under the Adabidda Nidhi scheme. He also accused the coalition of neglecting its promise of unemployment assistance, failing to sanction new pensions and abandoning its assurance of providing pensions from the age of 50 to members of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minority communities.

The YSRCP leader further claimed that delays in clearing fee reimbursement dues had left students facing difficulties.

Referring to the previous YSRCP government’s development record, Venkatarami Reddy said house-site pattas had been distributed to 27,000 beneficiaries in Anantapur, with housing construction taken up during its tenure. However, he alleged that the present government had failed to complete the housing projects over the past two-and-a-half years. He also recalled the laying of roads in smaller lanes across the city as part of the previous administration’s development initiatives.

Venkatarami Reddy accused the BJP of attempting to disturb Anantapur’s tradition of communal harmony by encouraging caste- and religion-based politics. He also questioned the government’s handling of employees’ demands, pointing out that the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) and interim relief (IR) had not been announced. He said the previous government under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had granted 23 per cent interim relief, while dearness allowance payments remained pending under the current administration.

Appealing to voters to defeat those allegedly involved in land encroachments and double registrations, he said electing Ramesh Goud and other YSRCP corporator candidates would ensure the protection of residents’ properties and make them guardians of the city.
