Anahat Singh Storms Into London Squash Classic Second Round With Straight-Game Win

Reigning world junior champion Anahat Singh continued her impressive rise in international squash, making a commanding start to her campaign at the USD 144,000 London Squash Classic on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Indian, ranked world No. 20, produced a clinical performance against Egypt's Mariam Metwally, winning her opening-round contest in straight games 11-3, 11-2 at the PSA Gold event.

Anahat wasted little time asserting her authority, controlling the rallies from the outset and leaving Metwally with few opportunities to fight her way back into the contest. The emphatic victory sent the Indian teenager into the second round with plenty of confidence.

Her latest win comes after a breakthrough period in which Anahat has established herself as one of India's most promising young squash players. She made history in July this year by becoming the first Indian to win the junior world championship title, adding another major milestone to a rapidly growing career.

She had also claimed a bronze medal at the 2025 junior world championships, underlining the consistency that has marked her progress over the past two seasons.

In the men's draw, Ramit Tandon also advanced to the second round after overcoming Qatar's Abdullah Al-Tamimi 11-6, 11-7. The world No. 42 Indian looked composed throughout the contest and secured a straight-game victory.

There was disappointment for another Indian, however, as Veer Chotrani bowed out in the opening round. The world No. 38 put up a strong fight against higher-ranked Swiss player Yannick Wilhelmi but eventually went down 9-11, 9-11.

With Anahat and Tandon through, Indian hopes remain alive at one of the season's prominent PSA Gold events.
