India’s rising squash star Anahat Singh began her Silicon Valley Open campaign on a winning note, defeating Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim in straight games to advance to the second round of the PSA Gold tournament in Redwood City, USA.

The 18-year-old Indian produced a composed performance to secure an 11-8, 11-8, 12-10 victory in just 31 minutes, showing her ability to handle pressure as she closed out the match in three games.

Anahat, who recently won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Japan, will face a significantly tougher challenge in the next round against Egypt’s Nour Elsherbini, the world No. 3 and top seed at the tournament.

The upcoming encounter will test the Indian teenager against one of the leading players in world squash and provide another opportunity to measure her progress against elite international competition.

The USD 143,500 Silicon Valley Open is a PSA Gold-level event, attracting a strong field of players. Anahat’s opening-round victory keeps her campaign on track as she looks to build on her recent success on the international stage.

The reigning junior world champion has emerged as one of India’s most promising squash talents, and her performance in the United States will be closely watched as she continues to gain experience against established players.

With a straight-games win behind her, Anahat will now turn her attention to Elsherbini, knowing that a strong performance against the Egyptian star could further underline her growing stature in the sport.
