Amitabh Bachchan Clarifies ‘Surgery’ Post, Says It Referred to Argentina’s FIFA World Cup Loss
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has clarified that his recent blog post mentioning surgery and an ICU stay was misinterpreted by fans, stressing that the remarks were not about his own health but were instead a metaphor linked to Argentina’s defeat in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The confusion began after a blog entry published on July 21, in which the megastar spoke about hospitalization, surgery, intensive care, discharge, and the challenges of returning home after a medical procedure. The post quickly sparked concern across social media, with many fans fearing that the actor had undergone surgery.
In a follow-up blog, Bachchan reassured everyone that he was in good health and explained the context behind his remarks.
“I am fine... misunderstood post,” he wrote, adding that he was using the example of a patient recovering after surgery to describe the emotional struggle faced by champions after suffering a major setback.
The actor specifically referred to Argentina’s loss in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the experience of football icon Lionel Messi, who had previously achieved the pinnacle of success as a world champion. Bachchan noted that one of the toughest challenges for any champion is coping with defeat and accepting that another champion will eventually take their place.
He further explained that just as the human body adapts and recovers after surgery, athletes and champions must also find the strength to overcome disappointment and rebuild themselves.
