Amit Shah’s Goa Visit to Focus on Narcotics, MHA Review and BJP Affairs

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to undertake a series of key engagements in Goa on Sunday as part of his three-day visit to the state, with internal security, narcotics control, administrative coordination and BJP organisation among the major areas of focus.

Shah arrived in Goa on Saturday for the visit, which will continue until September 7. His Sunday schedule includes a meeting to assess issues concerning Goa that fall under different divisions of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The Home Minister is also scheduled to address a press conference on narcotics, where the government’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and strengthen enforcement measures are expected to come under focus. The interaction assumes significance amid the Centre’s continued efforts to improve coordination between central agencies and state authorities in tackling organised drug networks.

Later on Sunday, Shah will inaugurate Atal Bhavan, the BJP’s new state office in Goa. The event is expected to be followed by a meeting with the party’s state leadership and elected representatives. Shah will also chair a meeting of the BJP state core committee, with organisational and political issues likely to feature in the discussions.

The Home Minister’s Goa visit will enter its final phase on Monday, when he is scheduled to chair the 28th meeting of the Western Zonal Council in Panaji. The council brings together Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra, besides the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The meeting is expected to provide a platform for discussions on issues involving inter-state coordination and regional development, besides matters requiring cooperation between the participating states and the Centre.

Shah will conclude his visit by attending the Goa Police President’s Colours Award Ceremony at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao. The award recognises the police force’s service and professional contribution.

Authorities have made security arrangements across locations associated with the Home Minister’s programme, with restrictions also being placed in certain areas to ensure the smooth movement of his convoy and the conduct of scheduled events.
