Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Sanskrit Scholars and Teachers on World Sanskrit Day

Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday extended greetings to the people on World Sanskrit Day, describing the ancient language as the foundation of India’s knowledge tradition, culture and consciousness.

In a message shared on X, Shah said Sanskrit is as scientifically rich as it is ancient, highlighting its enduring contribution to India’s intellectual and cultural heritage. He said the language has played a central role in preserving and transmitting knowledge across generations.

Shah highlighted the significance of the Vedas, Upanishads and Shastras, which were composed in Sanskrit and, according to him, have guided humanity on the path of knowledge for centuries. He underlined the importance of the language in understanding India’s civilisational heritage and its long-standing intellectual traditions.

“World Sanskrit Day” is observed to celebrate Sanskrit and promote awareness of its historical, cultural and academic significance. The language has contributed to diverse fields of Indian knowledge, including philosophy, literature, linguistics, mathematics, astronomy and traditional sciences.

The Home Minister also paid tribute to scholars and teachers who have made significant contributions to preserving Sanskrit and ensuring its transmission to younger generations. He acknowledged their role in keeping the language and its associated body of knowledge alive.

Shah’s remarks come amid continued efforts to promote Indian languages and traditional knowledge systems as part of the country’s cultural heritage.

The PIB release also noted that Shah extended Raksha Bandhan greetings to people across the country on the occasion of Sawan Purnima.

Through his World Sanskrit Day message, Shah emphasised the language’s continued relevance while calling attention to the contribution of generations of scholars and educators who have preserved Sanskrit’s place in India’s cultural and intellectual landscape.
