Amit Shah inaugurates electrotherm park, south Bhopal's new eco-friendly urban garden

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated Electrotherm Park, an 11,600 sq. m public garden developed in South Bhopal under a public–private partnership between Electrotherm (India) Ltd and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The green space marks a major push toward sustainable urban development and improved community infrastructure.

Designed as a modern, eco-friendly oasis, the park draws inspiration from the natural flow of a river, connecting landscaped zones that promote outdoor activity and community engagement. A welcoming entry plaza with a fountain and signature sculpture anchors the layout, blending aesthetics with practical public use.

A key highlight is the gently flowing water channel running along the jogging track, offering visitors a calming ambience through the sound of moving water. The garden also houses two children’s play areas, one for toddlers aged 18 months to six years, and another for children aged seven to thirteen equipped with innovative play structures that support physical and cognitive development.

Other amenities include a dedicated pet park, an open-air gym, upgraded traditional-games corner, and universally accessible seating pavilions, reflecting an inclusive design approach.

The transformation of barren land into a green, biodiverse landscape at Electrotherm Park also supports Ahmedabad’s wider sustainability goals by reducing heat, improving air quality, and enhancing groundwater absorption. The extensive tree cover helps lower temperatures and filter pollutants, while diverse plant species strengthen urban biodiversity. These improvements align with AMC’s efforts to expand green cover and create healthier, climate-resilient neighbourhoods.

Under the PPP model, Electrotherm Park will be maintained jointly by Electrotherm (India) Ltd and AMC, ensuring regular upkeep of greenery, infrastructure, and water features. The park will host community programs, fitness activities, and educational initiatives to engage residents, while volunteer and feedback mechanisms will encourage public participation. Success will be measured through visitor footfall, biodiversity growth, environmental improvements, and community satisfaction, ensuring the park remains a vibrant, sustainable, and well-utilized urban space.

The park features more than 22,800 plants, including 21 species of large trees, 14 fruit-tree varieties, and a wide array of flowering plants. Developed on previously barren land, it helps create a new micro-climate, enhances biodiversity, and introduces children to agriculture through curated orchard zones.

The project was led by Managing Director Suraj Bhandari, with close involvement from Sanjay Joshi, Group Vice President (HR & Admin), from concept to execution. Strategic guidance was provided by Executive Vice Chairman Shailesh Bhandari.
