Ambati Rambabu Gets Bail, Yet Remains Behind Bars
Senior YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu has been granted bail by the court in a case related to alleged inappropriate remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu . The Guntur Special Mobile Court issued the bail orders while rejecting a police custody petition filed in the same case.
Despite securing bail, Ambati Rambabu is not expected to be released immediately. He is already in judicial remand in another case registered at Pattabhipuram Police Station , and will continue to remain in Rajahmundry Central Jail . The court has extended his remand in that case until February 22 .
Alleged Misbehavior with Police
The other case pertains to an incident on November 12 last year , during a rally organized by the YSRCP under the banner of “ Praja Udyamam ” opposing the privatization of medical colleges under the PPP model in Guntur. Pattabhipuram police alleged that Ambati Rambabu misbehaved with the police during the rally. He was presented in court on a PT warrant, and the Special Judicial Magistrate ordered 14 days’ remand until February 22.
As a result, although Ambati Rambabu secured bail in the case related to remarks against CM Chandrababu on January 31 , his release is contingent on bail being granted in the medical college privatization rally case as well.
High Court Examines 35 Quash Petitions
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has begun hearing petitions seeking to quash 35 FIRs filed across the state against Ambati Rambabu over alleged comments against CM Chandrababu. The court raised key questions about the matter, expressing surprise at the registration of 35 separate FIRs over a single issue.
Ambati Rambabu’s lawyers argued that filing multiple cases on the same issue was unjust. Government lawyers countered that complaints came from different regions, prompting the court to review the matter carefully. The High Court directed police to refrain from hasty action until the hearing concludes and adjourned the next hearing to March 2 .
Political Allegations Surrounding Cases
YSRCP leaders have alleged that the ruling coalition has been targeting Ambati Rambabu with politically motivated cases since coming to power. Party sources claim that nearly 36 cases have been filed in just the past eight days, bringing the total against him to 44 cases . These developments have sparked significant debate in the state’s political circles.
