Ambani Hosts Finnish President Stubb in Mumbai During India Visit

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, along with his son Anant Ambani, hosted Alexander Stubb at their Mumbai residence during the Finnish leader’s ongoing visit to India.

The meeting, held on Saturday, was described as a warm and cordial gathering , reflecting the spirit of friendship, meaningful conversation, and strengthening ties between India and Finland. The informal interaction came amid President Stubb’s official engagements in the country and highlighted growing interest in expanding cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.

Earlier during his visit, President Stubb joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue , India’s premier forum on global geopolitics and geoeconomics. The annual conference brings together world leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss emerging international challenges and opportunities.

Opening the dialogue, Samir Saran, President of the Observer Research Foundation, said the platform has remained committed to “unpacking the present to help shape the future.” He noted that the 2026 theme, “Samskara,” reflects a world in which nations are asserting their identities, engaging in dialogue, and advancing through refinement.

During an interaction with ANI, President Stubb emphasised India’s growing global importance, stating that “the future is Indian.” He attributed this outlook to the country’s strong demographic base, expanding economy, and historical momentum , adding that these factors position India to play a central role in shaping the world’s future.

The Finnish leader also described his three-hour meeting with Prime Minister Modi as “wonderful,” noting that he felt warmly welcomed during the visit. Stubb remarked that India has witnessed remarkable development since his last visit in 2013, pointing to improvements in infrastructure, roads, and urban growth.

Highlighting the strategic importance of newly signed agreements between the two countries, Stubb said the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) would facilitate greater labour mobility and exchanges , describing the cooperation as a “two-way street” benefiting both nations.

During his stay in Mumbai, the Finnish President also paid tribute to the victims of the 2008 Mumbai attacks at the Taj Palace Hotel, calling the attacks “horrific” and reiterating that terrorism remains a global menace .

Addressing broader global developments, Stubb noted that the world is undergoing a significant transition in the international order . He advocated strengthening multilateral institutions and global norms rather than relying solely on power-based geopolitics.

Emphasising India’s growing leadership role, Stubb also called for a permanent seat for India in the United Nations Security Council , arguing that global institutions must reflect the realities of the modern world rather than the post-1945 order.
