Ambala man arrested for allegedly spying on Air Force station, Police say no terror link yet

Ambala police have arrested a local man on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive information related to the Indian Air Force station in the district, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Sunil alias Sunny , a resident of Ambala, was taken into custody following specific intelligence inputs suggesting that classified information from a defence installation was being leaked. A case has been registered, and the accused has been placed on four days’ police remand , according to officials.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Virendra Kumar said Sunil had been working as a contractor at the Air Force station since 2020 , primarily handling repair and maintenance work. Preliminary investigations indicate that he may have been sharing photographs and operational details from within the defence premises.

“During interrogation, his mobile phone was seized, and several suspicious activities came to light. He was in contact with a woman who allegedly sought information from him, which he claims he passed on,” Kumar said, adding that device analysis suggested data was transmitted to a neighbouring country considered hostile .

Police said the exact duration of the alleged espionage is still being investigated , though his access to the Air Force station dates back nearly four years. Officials stressed that the case is at an early stage , and all evidence is being independently verified.

Importantly, police clarified that no link has so far been established between Sunil and any recent terror-related incidents, including the Pahalgam attack or other major security incidents. “At present, there is no evidence connecting the accused to recent militant or terror activities. The probe is focused on information leakage,” a senior officer said.

Sunil’s father is a retired Indian Railways employee . He is married and has two children, police said.

In a separate but related development , Haryana Police earlier arrested Devendra , a resident of Kaithal district, for allegedly passing sensitive information to the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during the recent India-Pakistan tensions.

DSP Kaithal Veerbhan said Devendra confessed during interrogation that he had been in contact with ISI operatives and had shared details related to Operation Sindoor and other developments linked to the India-Pakistan dispute.

Cyber police are conducting a forensic examination of electronic devices seized in both cases. Officials said further details would emerge as investigations progress and legal action would be taken strictly in accordance with the law.
