Amazon India Signs MoU with Telangana to Expand Ashray Network in Hyderabad

Amazon India on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to establish five new Ashray centres in high-footfall locations across Hyderabad, expanding support infrastructure for delivery drivers and gig workers in the city.

Under the agreement, the Telangana government, through the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation , will assist in identifying suitable sites, facilitating necessary approvals, and providing administrative coordination for the establishment of the centres. The initiative is aimed at improving access to safe rest facilities and essential services for delivery personnel working across the e-commerce and logistics sector.

According to the company, the partnership reflects a shared commitment between Amazon and the state government to strengthen community infrastructure and expand access to shelter and support services in the region. With the addition of the upcoming facilities, Amazon's total number of Ashray centres in Hyderabad will rise to 14 .

Launched in 2024 , Ashray is Amazon's network of dedicated rest centres designed for all delivery drivers, regardless of the company they work for. The centres provide amenities such as air-conditioned seating, clean drinking water, mobile charging points, washrooms, first-aid support, and comfortable spaces where workers can rest during their shifts.

Jayesh Ranjan , Special Chief Secretary to the Telangana government for Metropolitan Area and Urban Development, welcomed the collaboration and said the state looks forward to working with Amazon India to improve the working conditions of delivery drivers in Telangana.

Amazon said the Hyderabad expansion is part of its broader efforts to support the people who power last-mile delivery operations. The company currently operates more than 100 Ashray centres across 16 cities in India and plans to expand the network to 250 centres by the end of 2026 .

Salim Memon , Director – Operations, Amazon India, said the company remains committed to investing in the well-being of delivery associates across the country. He noted that the expansion forms part of Amazon's broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore aimed at strengthening associate safety, health, and well-being across its operations network.

The latest partnership underscores the growing focus on improving welfare and working conditions for India's rapidly expanding delivery workforce.
