Amaravati’s Growth at Stake: CPI Calls for Free Zone Declaration and Farmers’ Relief

CPI State Secretary K. Ramakrishna has urged Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to immediately declare Amaravati a “Free Zone” to accelerate the construction of the state’s new capital and develop it into an international-level economic hub . Speaking to the media on Tuesday about Amaravati’s development, he emphasized that at a time when global companies are showing interest in the region, declaring it a Free Zone would not only attract large-scale investments but also create thousands of employment opportunities for local youth. He highlighted that the government has taken substantial loans for the development of the capital, and for both repaying these debts and revitalizing the economy , it is essential to create a development-friendly environment in Amaravati.

Ramakrishna expressed concern over the treatment of farmers who contributed land under the Land Pooling Scheme , stating that it was unfair for the government to remain indifferent toward them. “While rulers and ministers are constructing their own residences, it is unfortunate that farmers who sacrificed their land for the capital are still waiting for their allotted plots ,” he said. He demanded that the government immediately allot plots to the farmers and take steps to enable them to build their own houses .

He also appealed to the state government to take the initiative in persuading the central government to recognize Amaravati as a Free Zone . Ramakrishna emphasized that the overall development of the region would be possible only if the capital is developed not merely as an administrative center but also as a major economic hub .

Ramakrishna further accused opposition leader Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of continuously creating obstacles to Amaravati’s development. He alleged that despite losing power , Jagan is attempting to create confusion over the capital and hinder development works. He advised the Chief Minister to effectively counter these alleged conspiracies and take firm decisions to ensure that Amaravati’s development proceeds without any disruption .
