Amaravati’s 21.77-km Seed Access Road to Open Today

Andhra Pradesh’s capital region is set for a significant infrastructure boost with the opening of the Seed Access Road (E3) and a new steel bridge on Thursday. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to inaugurate the projects, marking an important milestone in efforts to strengthen connectivity across Amaravati.

The 21.77-km corridor is being developed as a key gateway to Amaravati, linking several capital-region settlements with major roads and providing better access towards NH-16. The inauguration also comes a day after the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed petitions challenging land acquisition for the project, allowing the infrastructure works to proceed.

The E3 road is being developed as a sub-arterial corridor connecting N1 and N17 roads within the capital region. It has been divided into three phases, covering 14.35 km, 3.92 km and 3.50 km respectively, with a 60-metre right of way planned along the entire alignment.

More than a conventional road, the project has been designed as a multimodal transport corridor. Its features include a nine-lane carriageway, service roads, footpaths and dedicated cycling tracks, along with a central Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor.

The road network also integrates green belts, stormwater drainage, sewage systems, drinking and recycled water facilities, electricity and gas networks, and ICT infrastructure. BRTS connectivity under the first two phases is already operational, linking Dondapadu and Undavalli and extending towards Karakatta Road near the ISKCON temple.

The corridor will connect key locations such as Rayapudi, Venkatapalem, Penumaka, Undavalli and Tadepalli, strengthening links between villages and major transport routes. Its planned connection towards NH-16 near the Manipal Hospitals area is expected to improve access between Amaravati and the wider Vijayawada road network.

The newly completed steel bridge is another crucial component, providing connectivity between the Seed Access Road and surrounding road network. Its opening is expected to ease movement while strengthening access to the capital region.

Meanwhile, the Amaravati Development Corporation has undertaken extensive landscaping along the corridor ahead of the inauguration. New plant varieties are being introduced around rotary sections near the Buckingham Canal in Undavalli, while the central median is also being landscaped.

With the High Court clearing the land-acquisition hurdle and major infrastructure works reaching completion, the opening of the Seed Access Road and steel bridge marks another significant step in Amaravati’s planned urban and transport development.
