The Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to pay tribute to Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu , whose sacrifice played a decisive role in the creation of Andhra State, by unveiling a towering memorial in the Amaravati capital region.

BC and EWS Welfare Minister S. Savita on Saturday inspected the construction works of the Amarajeevi Smriti Vanam , a memorial park coming up in Tulluru . Spread across 6.8 acres , the site will feature the ‘Statue of Sacrifice’ , a massive bronze statue dedicated to Sriramulu’s historic struggle for a separate state for Telugu-speaking people.

During the inspection, the minister said the statue has been designed with symbolic significance. Standing 58 feet tall , it represents the 58-day fast unto death undertaken by Potti Sriramulu in 1952 demanding the formation of Andhra State. His sacrifice became a turning point in the movement for linguistic states in India and eventually led to the formation of Andhra State in 1953 .

Savita announced that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will unveil the statue on March 16 , marking the 125th birth anniversary of the revered freedom fighter. The ceremony is expected to be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan , Minister Nara Lokesh , and several members of the state cabinet.

The minister said the memorial park is being developed with the cooperation of the Amarajeevi Charitable Trust , with the aim of preserving the legacy of Potti Sriramulu and educating future generations about his role in the Andhra statehood movement. She instructed officials and organisers to ensure that all remaining works related to the statue and memorial complex are completed within the stipulated timeline.

Savita also reiterated the coalition government’s commitment to the welfare of the Arya Vysya community. She noted that the government has fulfilled its election promise by declaring the self-sacrifice day of Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari as a state festival. In addition, the government has taken a decision to rename Penugonda village believed to be the birthplace of the goddess as Vasavi Penugonda.

Arya Vysya Corporation Chairman Doondi Rakesh, along with coalition leaders and party workers, participated in the programme.
