Amaravati to Get Singapore-Style Integrated Township, Says Nara Lokesh
The Andhra Pradesh government is accelerating efforts to transform Amaravati into a world-class capital city by drawing inspiration from Singapore’s advanced urban planning model. As part of the initiative, the state is preparing plans for a modern integrated township similar to Punggol , with a focus on sustainable infrastructure, smart governance and economic growth.
During his visit to Singapore, Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh held key discussions with officials of the Joint Implementation Steering Committee under Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry. The talks centered on developing the Amaravati Economic Region into a major industrial and financial hub capable of attracting global investments.
Lokesh said investor confidence in Amaravati has strengthened significantly following legal clarity on the capital project. He directed officials to fast-track development works and expand international partnerships to ensure rapid progress in the region.
Seeking to speed up infrastructure development, the minister also proposed securing support from the World Bank for major projects in the capital region. The government has already invited Requests for Proposals from interested partners to participate in the Amaravati Economic Region initiative.
The state is additionally exploring opportunities to strengthen trade ties with Southeast and East Asian nations through Singapore’s business ecosystem. As part of its larger vision, Andhra Pradesh is studying development models such as Suntec City to establish itself as a destination for global conferences, business events and investment summits.
Lokesh further stated that the government intends to adopt advanced real-time governance systems and smart administrative practices with Singapore’s technical expertise. Reiterating the state’s investor-friendly approach, he assured that companies investing in Andhra Pradesh would receive full government support. The long-standing collaboration with Singapore is also reflected in the development of Singapore Township near Pocharam in Ghatkesar, close to the Infosys campus, which was developed during the tenure of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
