Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu termed Parliament’s approval granting legal status to Amaravati as a landmark development. He said the decision strongly counters efforts that had stalled the capital’s progress and reflects overwhelming political support, with only the YSR Congress Party opposing it.

Naidu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for backing the state’s interests, expressing confidence that presidential assent will soon turn the bill into law.

Recalling the state’s post-bifurcation challenges, he said Andhra Pradesh began its journey without basic infrastructure or a capital, but Amaravati was envisioned as a long-term growth engine. He reiterated that the capital was chosen based on strategic advantages such as central location, connectivity, and public preference, while criticising the earlier three-capital proposal as impractical.

The Chief Minister accused the previous government led by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of creating obstacles and discouraging investment in Amaravati. Despite setbacks, he said public support for the capital remained strong.

Outlining the roadmap, Naidu said Amaravati is being developed as a modern, sustainable city and a hub for knowledge and economic activity, aimed at attracting global institutions and companies. He added that development will also extend to cities like Visakhapatnam and Tirupati , alongside key projects such as the Polavaram Project .

Naidu further stated that efforts are underway to stabilise the state’s finances and accelerate infrastructure growth, with a long-term vision of transforming Andhra Pradesh into a major economic force by 2047.

Expressing confidence in the project’s future, he said key phases of Amaravati’s development will be completed by 2028, calling it a lasting symbol of the aspirations of the people and their future.
