Amaravati Row: Chandrababu Facing Heat Over ‘Contradictory Claims’

The YSR Congress Party has accused the Andhra Pradesh government of misleading the public on the progress of Amaravati’s construction. Party MLC Thoomati Madhava Rao alleged that the administration led by N. Chandrababu Naidu is presenting conflicting narratives on the capital project .

Speaking at a press conference, he claimed the government has cited vastly different timelines in official submissions and public statements reportedly indicating a long-term completion horizon in tribunal filings while assuring citizens that the capital will be ready by 2028–29 . He questioned the credibility of such claims, especially when the state has acknowledged financial constraints in other areas.

Madhava Rao also criticised the government for avoiding discussion in the Legislative Council , alleging that this was to prevent scrutiny of land dealings and contract allocations. He sought clarity on whether a formal bill had been introduced on the issue.

Highlighting an alternative approach, he pointed to the development model proposed by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, which envisions integrated growth across Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur. He described it as a more balanced strategy for economic expansion .

The YSRCP leader further alleged a decline in welfare delivery , citing issues in healthcare access and support for farmers, and accused the government of rising debt and weakening institutions.
