Andhra Pradesh’s power utilities are fully prepared to meet rising electricity demand during the upcoming festival and agricultural seasons, state officials confirmed on Thursday.

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGENCO) and Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO) assured consumers of an uninterrupted power supply. “We will closely monitor daily demand and supply to meet peak requirements during the festive and agricultural periods,” a press release said.

Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, while reviewing the state’s power supply position, stressed prioritising hydel power generation in the state’s energy strategy. He noted that alternative arrangements, including hydel and thermal sources, should complement renewable energy like wind and solar, particularly given seasonal variations affecting wind generation.

Since July 2025, hydel sources have generated an average of 15.5 million units (MU) per day, highlighting their critical role in meeting electricity demand. The Srisailam Right Bank Power House, he added, has been a key contributor to APGENCO’s overall generation.

Vijayanand directed power officials to strengthen real-time coordination, load management, and contingency planning to ensure 24x7 quality power supply. The demand forecast from October 1 to 5 indicates total energy availability of 217 MU against an estimated requirement of 204 MU, leaving a net surplus of 13 MU. Peak demand for October is projected at 10,963 MW, with availability expected at 10,965 MW, reflecting a balanced supply during peak hours.
