Amaravati Central Library to Emerge as Iconic Knowledge Hub: Nara Lokesh
The proposed State Central Library in Amaravati will be developed as a landmark institution that reflects Andhra Pradesh’s rich cultural legacy while embracing global standards in education and technology, said Nara Lokesh , Minister for Education and IT.
Reviewing the design plans at his Undavalli residence on Saturday, Lokesh held a detailed meeting with senior officials of the School Education Department and offered key suggestions to shape the project into a world-class facility.
More Than a Library
The minister made it clear that the Central Library should not be limited to functioning as a conventional book repository. Instead, it must evolve into a vibrant knowledge centre equipped with modern technology and inclusive learning spaces. He directed officials to ensure that the architectural design reflects the aspirations of the people while preserving the state’s historical and cultural identity.
The proposed facility is expected to house over 15 lakh books and include archives, an auditorium, digital learning zones and research facilities. Lokesh stressed the need to create a comprehensive ecosystem that connects students, scholars and the wider public, positioning Amaravati as a knowledge capital.
Focus on Class X Examinations
The meeting also reviewed preparedness for the upcoming Class X public examinations. The minister discussed the implementation of the “100-Day Action Plan” aimed at improving learning outcomes in government schools. He assessed the use of digital tools, including clicker-based video content, to enhance classroom engagement.
Officials were instructed to increase awareness among parents about the LEAP app, which monitors student attendance and academic progress, ensuring greater accountability and participation.
Technology-Driven Reforms
As part of the state’s broader education reforms, Lokesh reviewed the introduction of AI-based tutoring systems in government schools. Discussions were also held on development works at Nidamarru School, evaluation procedures for Class X answer scripts, and arrangements related to the DSC teacher recruitment process.
Senior officials, including Education Secretary Kona Sasidhar, School Education Commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju, Samagra Shiksha SPD B. Srinivasa Rao and Public Libraries Director Krishnamohan, attended the meeting.
With a clear emphasis on blending heritage with innovation, the government aims to make the Amaravati Central Library a symbol of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to knowledge, technology and inclusive growth.
